Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009)

Remember Harry, the Rat With Women? This time his name is Connor Mead, but he's still a rat. A modern Scrooge, who believes marriage is humbug, but is taught otherwise by the ghosts of girlfriends past, present and future, and one who spans all of those periods. Just like Scrooge, he's less interesting after he reforms.

When notorious womanizer Connor Mead attends his brother Paul's wedding, he is forced to re-evaluate his behavior as he comes face-to-face with the ghosts of girlfriends past, present, and future, along with his deceased uncle. The experience changes his attitude and allows him to reconnect with his first and only love, Jenny.

Matthew McConaughey stars with Jennifer Garner in this romantic comedyabout committed bachelor who gets a wake-up call from his late ,legendary, hard-partying Uncle Wayne and his own Ghosts of GirlfriendsPast.Connor Mead (McConaughey--We Are Marshall) loves loves freedom, funand women ... in that order. But on the eve of his brother's wedding, with a houseful of well-wishers, wedding guests and Connor's childhoodfriend, Jenny (Garner--This Side of the Truth), the one woman who hasalways seemed immune his charm, Connor is haunted by his Uncle Wayne(Michael Douglas--The In-Laws) with an urgent message delivered by theghosts of Connor's jilted girlfriends, who take him on a revealing andhilarious journey through a lifetime of failed relationships.

This gets off to a bit of slow start but you stick with it, because it does, after all, star Matthew McConaughey. He plays Connor Mead, a smooth, handsome jerk who has made an art of the one-night stand - to the extent that in the course of the first few scenes he breaks up with three girls at once on a conference call. He learned it all from his womanising Uncle Wayne, who has since passed away. He returns to Uncle Wayne's mansion for the weekend to celebrate his brother's wedding, having already slept with three of the four bridesmaids, and tries to convince his brother not to get married by bribing him with his Jaguar. There, he runs into childhood sweetheart/maid of honour, Jenny Perotti, played by Jennifer Garner. At the rehearsal dinner, he makes a speech condemning the institution of marriage - he is the marriage Scrooge in this A Christmas Carol metaphor. He makes a speech condemning the institution of marriage - he is the marriage Scrooge in this A Christmas Carol metaphor. The story picks up when the ghost of Uncle Wayne appears, a smarmy, stuck in the '70s kind of guy, played by Michael Douglas. He is the Jacob Marley of the story. He tells Connor that during the course of one night, he will be visited by three ghosts, who will help him see the error of his ways. Just when Connor is convinced that Uncle Wayne was a hallucination, Allison Vandermeersh, Connor's first sex partner, an apparition from the year 1986, appears in his bed. She is the ghost of girlfriend past, come to escort him through his many former exploits. The first of those is the 10-year-old Jenny, with whom he shared his innocent first kiss. Allison takes him through middle school, where Jenny unwittingly breaks his heart. At that tender age, his Uncle begins Connor's private education and teaches him how never to be hurt by a woman again. Throughout the ensuing years, Connor keeps blowing his chance to be happy with Jenny - one, because she doesn't buy his act, and two, he just can't get himself to commit. As Connor, McConaughey is fine, he's convincing. But Garner, simultaneously feisty and grounded, has that ability to let emotion flicker across her face at a whim. It is that face that keeps us, and Connor, believing in Jenny. However, it is Emma Stone's spunky, '80s teen energy as Allison that keeps this film from being your typical schmaltz-fest. Lacey Chabert, as Sandra, is the ultimate bridezilla, while also managing to remain sympathetic, and adds great comic relief throughout. The dry and witty Noureen DeWulf plays the ghost of girlfriend present, Connor's quirky assistant, Melanie. It is these supporting actresses who really make the movie: wacky, clever, excellent comic timing all three. It's not just shots of shirtless McConaughey that keep us watching. The sexy, ethereal ghost of girlfriend future finally shows us the tragic future Connor will face if he doesn't change his ways. It's pretty cliche, seeing that it is, after all, based on the most famous Dickens story of all time dressed up in modern clothes. Fortunately, some clever dialogue and good performances save the over-worked plot, and we come away more satisfied than we expected to be when the movie began.

It's not Christmas and "Scrooge" is named Connor Mead (last name presumably named after ye olde alcoholic beverage). Connor is the ultimate love-'em-and-leave-'em ladies' man. He is as indiscriminate as they come, having sex with anyone possessing a vagina, but he never stays for a moment longer than is necessary. No cuddling and especially no spooning ("forking is so much more enjoyable"). Despite having an almost evangelical opposition to marriage, Connor has shown up for the nuptials of his younger brother, Paul (Breckin Meyer), who is about to be married to Bridezilla Sandra (Lacey Chabert). Also a member of the wedding party is a face from Connor's past: his One True Love, Jenny (Jennifer Garner). Of course, Connor has long since repressed his feelings for Jenny and the two of them spend their time together lobbing insults at one another. But Connor is in for a rude awakening. On the night before the wedding, he is visited by four ghosts. First comes Uncle Wayne (Michael Douglas), Connor's former partner in womanizing, who arrives to prepare his nephew for what is to come. The next visitor is the Ghost of Girlfriends Past (Emma Stone), who takes Connor on a nostalgic trip down Memory Lane. Then there's the Ghost of Girlfriends Present (Noureen DeWulf), who lets Connor know that all is not as it seems. Finally, there's the mute Ghost of Girlfriends Future (Olga Maliouk), who does a lot of pointing and shows Connor some ugly things, like his tombstone and Jenny married to another guy.

The successful fashion photographer Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) is a womanizer without feelings that has casual sex with every possible woman and worships his deceased wolf Uncle Wayne (Michael Douglas). The bachelor Connor travels to Massachusetts to be the best man of his younger brother Paul (Breckin Meyer) on the night before the wedding for the rehearsal. However, he tries to convince Paul to call off the wedding with Sandra (Lacey Chabert). The maid of honor Jenny Perotti (Jennifer Garner) was Connor's sweetheart when he was a teenager and he still likes her. When Connor is visited by the ghost of Uncle Wayne, he advises that Connor's life is completely wrong and he will be visited by the ghosts of his girlfriends from the past, the present and the future along the night. Connor is haunted by the ghosts; learns the causes and consequences of his attitude toward women and reevaluates his life. "Ghosts of my Girlfriends Past" is a funny and entertaining version of Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" and "Scrooge", with feelings and love replacing greed and money. Jennifer Garner is amazingly gorgeous and the close of her face in the last scene is mesmerizing. Matthew McConaughey is hilarious in the role of a cynical bachelor and shows a great chemistry with Jennifer Garner. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "Minhas Adoráveis Ex-Namoradas" ("My Lovely Ex- Girlfriends") 041b061a72
